5 Must have items for your winter wardrobe

Well...it's the middle of December and if you haven't geared up for the cold weather yet, now is the time. Yes, winter is dreadful, but if you are anything like me, winter is the best season for fashion, next to fall of course. There are so many combinations of cute outfits to put together for every Christmas party you are about to attend. Wherever you may be going, here are my five staple clothing items you need to complete your winter style.

Unless you are headed somewhere nice and warm for the Holidays it's time to put that bathing suit away and bring out all your favorite warm clothes to brace the cold. If you find a need to upgrade your wardrobe this season, I've rounded up the best staple pieces for your collection.

1. boots (ankle or tall)

I swear these are the ONLY type of shoes I reach for during this time of year. They pair great with jeans, leggings, AND skirts. They can be casual enough for class or you can dress them up for a nice dinner or a night out. I always keep a pair of black combat boots and a pair of tan tall ones to go with whatever outfit I'm in that day.

These will become staple shoes that you'll wear for years and years.

2. Ripped Jeans

As we learned from The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (yes, I'm dating myself), a good pair of jeans can take you a long way. Winter is the perfect weather for ripped jeans, not to mention how fashionable they are in today's fashion. They also look amazing with the booties I previously mentioned. You can also be creative and put a cute pair of lace tights underneath your jeans to spice it up a bit. I suggest keeping a light pair and a dark pair in your wardrobe for endless stylish outfits.

3. Sweaters

This one may seem obvious, as it's the sole reason we all look forward to cold weather. Sweaters can be paired with anything in your closet...and they are also a signature staple piece that you can dress up or down. I recommend having an oversized sweater, a fitted, fancier sweater, and casual everyday sweater. Try not to buy the same color for every fit either...mix it up with different colors and prints.

4. Corduroy Skirts

Corduroy Skirts are so...this holiday season. Pair them with those boots as mentioned before, cute tights or socks, and a sweater on top for a perfect Christmas Eve look. If you love the look so much, wear it out or to work for endless compliments!

5. Scarves

Last, but certainly not least, is our favorite winter accessory. You can throw on a scarf with any outfit whatsoever. Leggings and a denim jacket? Add a scarf. Skirt and a sweater? Add a scarf. Sweatshirt and sweatpants? Add a scarf. See what I mean? I love to pair plaid scarves with jackets and plain comfy scarves with sweatshirts and sweaters.
